THE IDEA: Have both sides of the family sit on whatever side they want during the ceremony.
Love it or hate it?
My family is small and Nick’s family is big. I think it’d be super weird if one side of our ceremony was filled with people and the other side was nearly empty. Don’t you? I’m liking the idea of not having designated sides for each side of the family. Also, what do you think about ushers? What is their purpose really? If it’s simply to walk people down the aisle, can’t the groomsmen do that?

I'm not crazy about that particular sign but I like the idea – sitting on sides feels antiquated.
I like the idea of not having assigned sides!
Good idea, no need of having assigned sides.

I think it depends how many guests you're expecting. We did not have assigned sides – we just reserved seats for the front-row people. Our groomsmen didn't even walk people to their seats, they were just on-hand to tell people to sit wherever the liked. That worked very well, but we had 60 guests with chairs setup on the lakefront, so specific signage was really not necessary.
So personally, I don't care for the sign, but it might be necessary if you're expecting a larger group – or if that group is a little more traditional. You know how it is… every wedding needs something a little different. 😉 Go with your instincts and not what anyone else tells you!

I had open seating and no ushers at my wedding! My family is huge, and his is small. It was nice because our friends and family could mingle and not a single person was "stuck in the back". I think ushers are one thing if you are having a church ceremony, but mine was outdoors and ushers would have been silly.
What a beautiful idea- I LOVE weddings and this is such a wonderful and modern idea- thanks for sharing!
